The
festival started life in 2000 as a small open day called ‘Coppers
and Canals’. Over the years it has grown in popularity
and size, now attracting thousands of people every
summer.
The
festival's profile has risen over the years and in 2007
was nominated for a VisitScotland Thistle Award under
Best Regional Event catogory.
The
Canal Festival is organised by East Dunbartonshire
Council in partnership with British
Waterways, Strathclyde Police, Peel Park Community
Heritage Association, The Regent Centre, Seagull Trust,
Forth & Clyde Canal Society, the Auld Kirk Museum,
the Kirkintilloch’s Initiative and East Dunbartonshire
Campus for Further & Higher Education.
