getting there

An 18 month programme of improvement works in Kirkintilloch’s town centre is continuing during the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival main weekend but that won’t dampen any of the enthusiasm or entertainment at this year’s bonanza!

As part of the improvement works it will mean Cowgate (Main Street), Peel Park and Regent Gardens will not be utilised during the Festival weekend. There will be an array of craft and market stalls in Barleybank (adjacent to St Mary's Church), the ever popular Classic Cars in Strathkelvin Place and loads of fun filled activity in Sainsbury's grassed area, New College Lanarkshire - Kirkintilloch Campus and Southbank Marina.

Please bear with us whilst works are on-going in the Town Centre and we look forward to fully utilising the public realm space and the refurbished Town Hall next year!

The Atlantic Rowing Team “TEAM NOBLE” - Saturday and Sunday

The Atlantic Rowing team “Team Noble” comprises 4 friends; 2 firefighters, a geologist and a conservationist who, in December 2017, will embark on The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. Team Noble was set up in memory of firefighter John Noble from Alloa who was killed in a crash in Jan 2008 and the team are raising funds for the Firefighters Charity.

A total of 40 teams will leave the Canary Islands and finish in Antigua, rowing over 3000 miles. Last year’s race was won in a record 37 days and 9 hours. No outside assistance is permitted during the race and each team has to carry all necessary food, cooking gas, medical kit, and communication and safety equipment for the entire crossing. All drinking water is produced by desalination of sea water.
They have raised £5k to date and are always grateful for donations which can be made online at: www.team-noble.org
