THESE TOP TIPS – COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!
COLD WATER SHOCK
This can even happen on a summer’s day. Cold water shock can cause you to gasp uncontrollably and eventually drown. It is your body’s automatic fight or flight response.
HOW TO DEAL WITH COLD WATER SHOCK
– AVOID GASPING, THRASHING OR SWIMMING HARD
– TURN ON YOUR BACK AND FLOAT INSTEAD
FLOATING
Floating will allow you to catch your breath whilst the effects of cold water shock pass. Once you regain control of your breath, you can swim to safety, call for help or continue to float until help arrives.
HOW TO FLOAT
– FIGHT YOUR INSTINCT TO THRASH AROUND
– LEAN BACK, EXTENDING YOUR ARMS AND LEGS
– IF YOU NEED TO, GENTLY MOVE AROUND TO HELP FLOAT
– CONTINUE TO FLOAT UNTIL YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BREATHING
PARK AND RIDE
Free park and ride services throughout the Sunday afternoon – to and from Lenzie Station for those arriving by train, and to and from Broomhill Depot (Kilsyth Road, Kirkintilloch) – making it easier for people to park on what will be a very busy day!
