On the 31st August 2019 Carers Link want people to Walk With Us to raise some much needed funds. We need to raise an additional £20,000 towards delivering our services to carers across East Dunbartonshire in 2019.

Walk With Us will bring people together whilst they walk, have fun and raise funds to support our work. This year we are delighted to partner our event with East Dunbartonshire Council and the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival.

There are two routes to choose from depending on age and ability:

Route 1 – 13 miles (approx): Starts in Milngavie and ends in Kirkintilloch, walking via Strathblane, Lennoxtown and Milton of Campsie.

Route 2 – 4 miles (approx): This is a shorter, family friendly walk starting at Bishopbriggs ending in Kirkintilloch.

All routes will meet at the finish in Kirkintilloch to enjoy a celebration of their efforts and soak up the atmosphere during the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival.

Staying fit, healthy and as strong as possible is crucial for carers to enable them to continue their role. Being active increases people’s connection with the world around them, improves confidence, resilience and control, and reduces anxiety. Walking With Us is a great way of getting to know other people, can their experiences and tips for caring as they walk.

Heather McKelvie, Events Coordinator at Carers Link said:

“People do not need to be carers to take part in the walk, maybe they know someone who cares for a friend or family member and want to make sure they have somewhere to go when they need support. Other people may just want to make sure that anyone, no matter who they are or who they care for knows about the support that Carers Link can offer and can access it when they need to. We can’t guarantee good weather, but we can guarantee good chat.”
